"They said they know that I'm trying to get this done as fast as possible because I want to focus on my high school season as much as possible," Hubert said. "They said they wanted to get things moving and get Coach (Roy) Williams down to see me."
"One of the assistants was at my practice [Wednesday]," he added. "They said they wanted to be in contact as much as possible."
Hubert said Wake Forest and Maryland were the two schools most involved with his recruitment right now. Both have offered him a scholarship. At this point, the Tar Heels have not.
So is the 6-foot-9, 200-pound center interested in the Heels?
"I'm not really sure yet," Hubert said. "I'm interested enough to at least hear them out."
According to Hubert, North Carolina has not set up a visit with him and he's still learning about their program.
"Outside of them being UNC, I don't know a lot of the detailed things as much," he said.
The Tar Heels were in contact with Hubert earlier in his high school career, including assistant coach phone calls and evaluation trips -- and hosted him for an unofficial visit in the fall of 2009. That Chapel Hill stay included attending a practice, touring the facilities and meeting with the coaching staff.
While Hubert doesn't have a timeframe on making his college decision, he was clear that he doesn't want it to affect his senior season.
"It has its highs and lows I guess you could say," Hubert said about the recruiting process. "It's not easy."
"I'm just kind of playing this thing out."
