Elzy Will Not Play in Bowl Game

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- Anthony Elzy will not play in the Music City Bowl, UNC confirmed on Monday.

The senior running back will be absent from the season finale because of academic reasons, according to sources close to the situation.

Elzy began the 2010 season at fullback, but after the UNC running back corps was decimated by suspensions and injuries, the Warren, Ohio native became the featured back in the final three games of the season and excelled in that role. Elzy had 184 total yards against Virginia Tech, 210 total yards against NC State, and 116 rushing yards against Duke.

He accumulated 308 yards rushing and 338 yards receiving on the season.

Without Elzy, the Tar Heels are down to two running backs -- senior Shaun Draughn (106 carries, 477 yards) and sophomore Hunter Furr (5 carries, 29 yards) -- and walk-on fullback Curtis Byrd for Thursday's game against Tennessee.
