Durant completed 9 of 12 passes in the scrimmage, including his final six passes. Facing a blitz, Durant took a three-step drop and found a wide-open Derrele Mitchell down the right side for a 44-yard score to account for the bulk of his passing yardage. In his last two scrimmages, Durant is 21 of 27 for 329 yards and three touchdowns.
Lewis, who is sharing time with Chad Scott and Willie Parker at tailback, had several big runs, including a 35-yard touchdown run. Lewis charged straight ahead and then bounced left and scampered down the left side of the field for the score.
"Competition brings out the best in everybody," said Bunting. "I think Jacque's had his best spring and Willie Parker's had his best spring since I've been here."
Parker gained 70 yards on eight carries and nearly had a long touchdown run, but slipped on the grass, wet from an earlier shower. Scott began the scrimmage with the first team and had 25 yards on seven carries, although some of his carries came from the 1-yard line as the Tar Heels worked on different game-like situations.
On defense, linebacker Doug Justice and defensive ends Alden Blizzard and Brian Rackley each registered one sack. Defensive back Cedrick Holt made several nice plays and broke up two passes.
Injury Update: * Running back Rikki Cook, who missed most of last week's practices, will have surgery on Monday to remove "loose bodies' from his left knee. He will miss the rest of spring practice, but should be ready for summer conditioning and preseason practice in August.
* Deep snapper Greg Warren has cartilage damage in his right knee cap and has not practice in over a week.
* Place-kicker David Wooldridge was sick and did not practice.
* Tailback Ronnie McGill (left ankle sprain), Defensive end Xavier Rainey (shoulder sprain) and defensive tackle Chase Page (right hamstring) all practiced today, but did not participate in the scrimmage.
* Tight end Bobby Blizzard missed today's scrimmage while attending former Tar Heel Ronald Curry's wedding in Salisbury. Congratulations, Ronald!
