The 6-foot-3 junior guard out of Houston (Tex.) Strake Jesuit said Roy Williams watched his MVP-winning performance a couple of days ago at the Christmas Classic in North Bethesda, Md. and then made the call about the offer on Sunday.
"I talked to Coach Williams earlier last week and he told me he was going to come see me on December 30th, last Thursday," Sulaimon said. "I had a really good game and he said he would give me a call."
"I talked to my coach and my coach told me today that he extended the scholarship offer," he added.
Sulaimon, who is ranked a Top 20 prospect in the 2012 class by Scout.com, now has offers from UNC, Duke, Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Indiana, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Oregon State and Arizona.
"I'm just trying to get better every day," he said. "I'm thankful that the (Tar Heels) are recruiting me and it's a blessing that they are even looking at me and recruiting me. It's a blessing that they extended an offer."
"I'm just really excited right now," Sulaimon said about picking up two big offers this weekend. "I'm looking at both of those schools with strong interest and I'm really excited that they both have extended an offer."
In mid-December, Sulaimon listed UNC, Duke, Arizona, Texas, Texas A&M and Baylor as the schools that he likes the most. He's taken trips to all of the schools except UNC and Arizona.
Sulaimon said he doesn't have a first hand experience with UNC, but he does like the team's tempo.
"With Carolina, I haven't visited there, but from what I see on TV I like their style of play and how they get up and down," he said.
"They really let their guards play," he added about UNC. "I really like Roy Williams a lot and he's a great guy. I haven't really been there, so I can't say anything about the campus."
At this point, Sulaimon doesn't have any visits scheduled, but he said he's hoping to make it to the Duke/North Carolina matchup.
