Paige Commits to Carolina

North Carolina has landed a 2012 point guard. Marcus Paige of Marion (Iowa) Linn-Mar announced his decision on Saturday night.

"At this time I would like to announce that I have accepted a scholarship offer from Coach Roy Williams to continue my career as a student-athlete at the University of North Carolina," Paige, a 6-1, 160-pound prospect, stated in a press release.

He chose UNC over offers from Kansas, Iowa State and most of the Big Ten. Roy Williams offered a scholarship last month during Paige's Chapel Hill visit.

Paige cited his reasons for choosing UNC: "The great relationship that I have developed with Coach Williams and his staff, the history and tradition of North Carolina Basketball, [and] having the opportunity to play for a National Championship."

He is ranked the No. 5 point guard in the junior class and No. 30 overall, but is expected to climb in the next rankings update.

"Paige's overall feel for the game is impressive for a young point guard and his leadership shows through in a big way," said Scout.com's Evan Daniels. "He makes shots easy for teammates and can also set up his own shot by driving in either direction and knocking down a pullup jumper."
