Roy Williams Calls 7-Footer

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --- While their first offered big man target in the Class of 2012 is now off the board, the Tar Heels are stepping up their efforts Kaleb Tarczewski.

Tarczewski, a 7-foot center out of Southborough (Mass.) St. Mark's, already holds scholarship offers from a number of high major programs. North Carolina recently began to pick up their interest.

"They have the past few weeks, "Tarczewski confirmed. "They were kind of iffy, I don't know if they were trying to get someone else, but they are definitely starting to recruit me more."

This past week Tarczewski fielded a phone call from Roy Williams. Although there wasn't an offer handed out, he expressed interested in getting to know the five-star prospect better.

"It's just been a few weeks, so I think they are just trying to feel me out and see what kind of player I am," Tarczewski said.

When asked if there was mutual interest Tarczewski said, "It's North Carolina, so obviously I'd be pretty interested, but we will see what happens."

Tarczewski said he's planning to visit Kansas at the end of January and possibly visit Boston College in the near future. He doesn't yet have plans to visit UNC.

"I went to North Carolina for Bob Gibbons (‘ Tournament of Champions last May) so I got to see their campus and I got to play on their court," Tarczewski.

At this time, Tarczewski says West Virginia, Kansas, Kentucky and Connecticut are the schools recruiting him the hardest. He also mentioned strong interest from Boston College and Wake Forest.

"It's going pretty well," he said of the entire process. "Almost every school in the country is on me. It all happened pretty fast. I'm trying to take my time and get to know the programs and go from there."
