Dixon, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback from Clearwater (Fla.) Countryside, verbally committed to UNC before ending his official visit in mid-November.
"I wasn't planning on committing on my official visit," Dixon said "I was planning on waiting a little bit more. But I knew it was going to be out of Auburn and North Carolina, and I just felt comfortable there at North Carolina."
The only other school Dixon officially visited was Kentucky. However, he received nearly 20 other scholarship offers, including Auburn, South Florida, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
"I really liked the coaching staff and the academics and the love for football there," Dixon said.
Since committing, Dixon has spoken to Troy Douglas, UNC's defensive backs coach, almost daily.
"He just asks me how I'm doing in school and [tells me] to continue to work hard and stay focused on my school work," Dixon said. "He said he can't wait to get me up there."
Although close, Dixon says he hasn't been cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse, yet.
"I'm not cleared yet," Dixon said. "But, I'm close to being cleared. I'm going to be good."
