"Dee Littlejohn is a man," Lincolnton head coach Scott Cloninger said. "You look at him and he looks like he's already a junior in college… He has great speed too – surprisingly as big as he is. Many times this year we saw him out run the people in the secondary. He is very explosive, very strong player. He has great size… He can catch the ball out of the backfield – we don't throw the ball nearly enough to him. He's one of those guys, when he gets the ball he's going to fall forward."
Littlejohn is the fullback in Lincolnton's double-wing, triple-option offense. In two seasons as a starter, he has rushed for over 2,000 yards and is a two-time All-Southern Piedmont Conference selection.
"The good thing about [our offense] is he touches the ball on almost every play," Cloninger said.
As a junior, he rushed for 1,091 yards and 22 touchdowns on 161 carries (6.8-yard average).
Unsurprisingly, the school showing Littlejohn the most attention is Georgia Tech, which employs a triple-option offense.
"I like [Georgia Tech] because I know what's going on [with the offense]," Littlejohn said. "Everything is the same. So I don't think it would be that hard to jump into."
It's not just the offense that attracts Littlejohn to Georgia Tech.
"I like the city and I like the campus," Littlejohn said. "I've been down there a few times and the campus is right in the middle of the city, but not too far from home. And then I have friends that stay in Roswell, Ga."
Littlejohn is also being recruited by Clemson, Duke, North Carolina, and NC State.
"I expect him to go big time," Cloninger said. "Once the word gets out on Dee, I expect everybody to come to me looking at him."
Schools that don't run the triple-option offense are recruiting Littlejohn as a big running back, according to Littlejohn.
This spring, Littlejohn has attended a junior day at Georgia Tech and visited UNC in February.
As a child, Littlejohn rooted for Florida. "Once I got older I realized they only have small ‘backs," Littlejohn said… Littlejohn is part of Lincolnton's track and field team participating in the 100-meter dash, discus, and shot put.
