Eric Ebron Journal: 'We're Going To Be Good'

Eric Ebron, a Tar Heel tight end signee from Greensboro (N.C.) Smith, is filing weekly journal entries at Inside Carolina as he counts down to enrolling at UNC.

  Entry #9: Spring Game

I'm going to be honest, I did not like our seats for the spring game! We couldn't see anything. But, it was football. I was standing up, I was hyped, and I enjoyed it. It was a fun day. I had my girlfriend, my brother, a couple of my teammates, my stepdad, my mom, and one of my coaches with me. We had a lot of fun.

Before the game, I gave my girlfriend a tour of the football facilities. The game and atmosphere were good. The fans started the "TAR… HEELS" chant. The only thing was that if you got up to get a drink, you missed the game – it was so short.

I thought the players did what they were supposed to do. Marquise, the way he ran, that was crazy. The defense was relentless. Ryan Houston ran the ball well. I thought, "Man, we're going to be good." I was just amazed. We didn't really get too detailed – we were just doing our thing.

Saturday was the first time I've been on the field at Kenan Stadium in a while. To play in a complete bowl, that's going to be crazy. It felt great Saturday being on the field, because you have people screaming from all four corners now. Before they even got started with the addition to the stadium, when they first told us they were going to have two Jumbotrons, I was excited – I was thinking, "I'm going to be on two TVs during replays."

My great weekend didn't stop on Saturday, though. On Sunday, I turned 18! I feel a little different. Parents say you're just turning another age, but turning 18 you get more leeway. For example, my dad was telling me all the stuff he was proud of me for like waiting until I was 18 to complete most of my tasks in life. One of my tasks was getting my first tattoo. I did that Sunday.

But let me tell you two things: tattoos are painful and they're very addictive. I'm addicted after just one. By the time I get to Carolina, I'm going to have like ten more – but nothing like Mike Tyson with a face tattoo. I'm going to stay strictly biceps, triceps, shoulders, and back.

My friend Roman drew my whole tattoo. I told him if he drew my tattoo that he'd see it on national television, so he agreed to do it. First, I told him I wanted two hands crushing a football until it's about to pop. He drew it, showed it to me but he said, "I'm not feeling this, but I drew another one." He pulled out another one with the Tar Heel logo in the background and I said, "Oh, heck yeah."

I have one of the hottest tattoos walking around my school. Everyone says for my first tattoo that it was crazy that I sat through all of that. But, it's not even completed, yet. I'm adding Carolina Blue coloring to it and finishing the inside of it. It's not even done yet and everybody has said "Yo, that's hot!" I had to do it big.

Before ending this entry, I've got to give a shout out to Coach Harder for reading my journal every single week.
