Briggs maintains top schools

Gastonia Ashbrook (N.C.) athlete Michael Briggs is open to several positions and several schools.

Coming off an impressive Junior season in which he improved greatly after taking on additional playing duties in the season on both sides of the ball, Michael Briggs is ready for the summer.

"After the Freedom game, our starting tailback went down with an ankle injury, so our fullback moved to tailback and I started at fullback," says the 6-foot-1, 228 pounder. "I played it last year, but the coaches wanted me to focus on just the one position. I am not sure what we will do next year."

College coaches are not tipping their hand as to which position he will play at the next level.

"Most of them are saying I will play at both positions, but nobody is saying I will play just one or the other."

Teams such as Clemson, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee are all inside Briggs' top-five, but none have yet to offer.

"Clemson and North Carolina have both talked about offering, and North Carolina wants to see how I run at their summer camp."

As to a position, Briggs, says he is open to either linebacker or fullback.

"I like to think I can play both, and it really will not matter which one I play, just so long as I play."
