Eric Ebron Journal: Following the Game Plan

Eric Ebron, a Tar Heel tight end signee from Greensboro (N.C.) Smith, is filing weekly journal entries at Inside Carolina as he counts down to enrolling at UNC.

  Entry #11: Enrollment Change

I won't be enrolling at UNC on May 9 like I had previously planned.

My English 9 online class did not get accepted by the NCAA. I needed that class in order to be cleared to enroll in May. It just comes down to NCAA rules. We already got into trouble one time with the NCAA (when I accidentally put the wrong enrollment date on the NCAA Clearinghouse paperwork), so we don't need to argue with the NCAA or put up any kind of fight. We just have to deal with it and keep it moving.

I'll definitely be at UNC in June. The NCAA gave us a plan that I can follow, because our semester recently started. There's no worry about it not working, because it's coming from them. So it's not like I'll have to go to a prep school or anything like that, because my grades are good. I just need to get this required class done.

I was excited about enrolling in the first summer semester to get my college career rolling. Plus, I didn't think I would have to take any final exams at Smith. But now I have to do them, and it adds three or four more weeks of high school, which is good and bad.

At first, I was frustrated by the ruling. But, it is what it is. I just have to follow the game plan that's laid out for me. As long as I know I'm going to get there and I'm not going to have to prolong it any further than June, then I'll just do it.

And really it doesn't even matter all that much, because Tyler Alberts is the only 2011 signee who is enrolling in May. Everyone else is enrolling in June with me. I was going to have a little bit more time to adjust to the college life, but I'll be fine.

I'm still going to be fighting for the starting tight end spot this coming season. I'm just going to start that fight a little later than I expected. I'll now graduate from Smith on June 11 and then move into my dorm at UNC on the 12th or 13th and then I'll be putting in hard work, just like everybody else, and trying to eventually win a BCS Championship. In the meantime, I'll be doing a whole lot more running, because I thought I was going to get that in when I was there in May. I'm not about to let training camp kick my butt.
