UNC WR Ian Firestone to Transfer

CHAPEL HILL, NC--University of North Carolina football player Ian Firestone announced Thursday that he will transfer to another school next season.

Firestone, a 6-0, 182-pound wide receiver from Sinking Spring, Pa., red-shirted in 2002 and did not play in a game.

"I would like to thank Coach John Bunting and the University for bringing me here," says Firestone. "I feel it is my best interest to seek another opportunity closer to home."

"I'm sorry to see him go," says Bunting. "I like Ian a great deal. I think Ian has a fine future ahead of him. We wish him well and he will always be part of the North Carolina family. You never like to see people leave, but Ian feels he'll be more comfortable closer to home."

Firestone has not determined which school he will transfer to at this time.
