Heels Host Newkirk

North Carolina welcomed local standout Josh Newkirk to campus on Tuesday and the talented Class of 2013 lead guard came away impressed.

"It was real good," Newkirk said of the visit to Chapel Hill. "I had fun. I got a better understanding of what they are about. I enjoyed myself. They have some nice facilities. I liked it."

While on campus for an unofficial visit the Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God product said he met with Roy Williams and also played pick up ball with the North Carolina basketball team.

During Newkirk's meeting with Williams, he said he was able to get a feel for their offense and their program as a whole.

"It went real well," the 6-foot-1 guard said. "He told me about how their offense is run and then everything about the program, the tradition and everything about it."

Newkirk, who also has college interest from Arizona, Indiana, Appalachian State, Georgetown, Wake Forest and N.C. State, said UNC was able to see him in the last evaluation period.

"They saw me in an open gym on the last day of the contact period and since then they've been staying in contact with me," Newkirk said of a UNC assistant coach's trip to Word of God in April.

"[They said] I'm a major priority for them," he added.

What stuck out about Carolina?

"I like basically everything," Newkirk said. "It's a good school and I'd love to go there. It was just a great, great visit."

Newkirk said that UNC and Arizona (offer) are the two schools sticking out to him the most, but doesn't expect a decision in the near future.

"I'm just taking it in right now," he said. "I won't be making a decision anytime soon."
