GREENSBORO, N.C. --- North Carolina signees Romar Morris and Darien Rankin, as well as several UNC 2012 targets, took part in the NCHSAA 2A State Track and Field Championships on Saturday at North Carolina A&T University.

An injury suffered during the 100-meter dash prevented Morris from defending his title in the event. During the 100-meter preliminaries, the Salisbury (N.C.) athlete slowed up and began holding his hamstring as he reached the finish line.

Rankin, Morris' current Salisbury teammate and fellow future Tar Heel, placed second in the high jump with a 6-foot-6 jump, eighth in the long jump with a jump of 20-10.75, and eighth in the triple jump with a 42-4.5 jump.

Kedrick Davis, who recently received a scholarship from UNC, broke Morris' 2A State record in the 100-meter dash with a run of 10.47 seconds. He also helped Charlotte (N.C.) Berry Academy's win the 4x200 relay and placed third in the 200-meter dash with a 21.56-second time.

Todd Gurley, who UNC has offered a scholarship as a running back, took first in the 110-meter hurdles with a 14.13-second time. The Tarboro (N.C.) athlete also placed fifth in the 100-meter dash (10.71 seconds).

Another UNC target A.J. Alston (Roanoke Rapids (N.C.)) tied for fourth in the long jump (21-2.5), fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.29 seconds) and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (40.84 seconds).
