Rankins Names Leader

Sheldon Rankins has close to 20 scholarship offers and one school has now emerged as his leader.

"North Carolina is my leader," Rankins said Friday. "I have been there twice, the coaching staff is great, the education there is great, I love how they play defense, and I just feel good up there."

The Tar Heels have put themselves in good position to land this 6-foot-3, 255 pound defensive lineman out of Covington (Ga.) Eastside.

He has moved his decision up close to six months.

"I originally said I would be committing in February of next year, but I think by August I will have a firm grasp on where I want to go now."

Who else is still in the running with UNC?

"Louisville, South Florida, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State," answered Rankins.

He attended UNC's three-day camp last summer.
