Play Suspended; Heels Lead Wake, 5-0

DURHAM, N.C. – ACC Tournament action was suspended at 1:55am on Saturday with No. 5 seed North Carolina leading No. 8 seed Wake Forest, 5-0, in the seventh inning. Play will resume 40 minutes after the N.C. State-Clemson game on Saturday. [UPDATED]

After initially deciding that the UNC-WFU game would only be played on Sunday morning if needed, ACC officials changed their plans and elected to resume the game in the middle of four previously-scheduled contests on Saturday.

No. 2 seed Florida State and No. 3 seed Georgia Tech start the day at 9am, and following a 40-minute break, No. 7 seed N.C. State and No. 6 seed Clemson will play at approximately 12:45pm. North Carolina and Wake Forest will resume play 40 minutes after that game at roughly 4:30pm.

Wake Forest and No. 5 seed Miami will play following that game and then UNC and top-seeded Virginia will close out pool play with a night cap that will likely start after 9pm.

UNC starting pitcher Patrick Johnson rolled through six innings with a no-hitter, striking out eight and walking two while facing his minimum 18 batters.

The Tar Heels struck early when Jesse Wierzbicki doubled down the third base line to score Levi Michael in the top of the first inning. Greg Holt then bombed a two-run homerun over the blue monster in left field two innings later to increase UNC's lead to 3-0. Michael and Wierzbicki followed Holt's lead with a pair of home runs over the blue monster in the fifth inning to give North Carolina a 5-0 advantage.
