Williamson and UNC up in the air

Drew Williamson had planned on enrolling at North Carolina this fall and suiting up for the basketball team as a walk-on, but now that plan might change.

Williamson told Inside Carolina Monday afternoon that he might not be a Tar Heel after all.

"I'm exploring my options," said the 6-0 senior point guard from Burlington (N.C.) Cummings. "I still may come [to UNC]."

Williamson spoke with his parents and coach after the coaching change in Chapel Hill and they came to the conclusion that he should entertain other possibilities.

The main other possibility, according to Williamson, is a scholarship offer from Old Dominion.

"There were a lot of things we talked about," he said. "It's mainly the coaching change. The [previous] coaches had talked about the chance of me getting a scholarship later and now that might have changed since the new coaches haven't had a chance to see me play yet."

"I've talked to [new UNC assistant] Coach [Steve] Robinson and asked him some questions," Wililamson continued. "He said he couldn't answer them because he's not the head coach, but told me to call back.

"I'll probably call tomorrow."

As for when he'll make a decision on this?

"By the end of this week," he said.
