Davis Commits

Kedrick Davis has committed to the Tar Heels, InsideCarolina.com has confirmed through sources close to the situation. The 5-10, 170-pound athlete from Charlotte (N.C.) Berry Academy was in Chapel Hill this weekend for UNC's football camp.

Davis has held the label of "sleeper" prospect due in part to being sidelined for his sophomore season. Yet his junior season numbers included 38 receptions for 780 yards (20.53-yard average) and 10 touchdowns, and 16 rushes for 106 yards (6.63-yard average) and a score.

Davis is also Berry's punt and kickoff returner. He averaged 55.4 yards on five punt returns and 32.33 yards on 12 kickoff returns.

Before he set out this summer on the camping circuit to prove his skills, UNC offered him in May, joining Ball State, Duke, Kentucky, and Western Michigan.

"His burst off the line gets him space and he's gone," Berry assistant coach Jonathan Simmons said. "If you miss his tackle, he's gone. He has a lot of speed and he's dangerous in the open field."

Davis is also a track star, earning medals at last month's During the NCHSAA State 2A Track and Field Championships. He ran a 10.47-second time in the 100-meter dash, breaking UNC signee Romar Morris's record of 10.54 seconds. He was also part of Berry's 4x200 relay time that finished first and placed third in the 200-meter dash with a 21.56-second run
