McGary's Rise Continues

AKRON, Ohio --- Over the course of the spring, Mitch McGary's rise up the rankings was well documented.

Yet the effusive praise from scouts has grown even louder this week, as the July Evaluation Period got underway, with glowing reports popping up left and right.

The coaches have taken notice as well. After less than two days of watching him at the LeBron James Skills Academy this week, the 6-11 rising senior power forward from Porter, Ind. who attends Brewster Academy (N.H.) received offers from several more schools, including Kentucky and Duke.

There were reports surfacing that the Tar Heels had offered as well, and McGary addressed that with on Friday afternoon.

"I heard I did (get a UNC offer)," he said. "My mother told me my Dad got off the phone with (North Carolina) and said I (received an offer)," McGary said. "Through the (grapevine) I heard I did. I haven't talked to my father, my mother talked to me. I think they did, but I'm not sure. I don't know.

"Coach Robinson talks to me. He said that they want me to come down for a visit, so I would think that they would (offer)."

Regardless, McGary is finishing up the LeBron James Skills Academy and is still open to all options in his recruitment.

"I don't have a favorite," McGary said. "I'm wide open to everyone. I'll put out a list in the next month or two."

After wrapping up play in Akron, McGary will finish up the first session of July with the SYF Players at the NY2LA Summer Jam in Mequon, Wisconsin from July 12-15.
