Marion Honors Williams

MARION, N.C. --- The city of Marion honored Roy Williams on Monday with a dedication ceremony for a marker noting his birthplace.

The North Carolina Hall of Fame basketball coach was born on Aug. 1, 1950 at Marion General Hospital. The marker stands in front of City Hill, one block from the former hospital.

"I always think that you should remember where you came from and the people who are important to you before," Williams said. "These people will always be important to me. To me, this is always coming home ... I am flattered and I am being honest about it."
