Mastromatteo Back On Board

Dan Mastromatteo re-committed to North Carolina on Thursday night.

"I just realized that's where I want to go," Mastromatteo said. "That's really about it."

Mastromatteo, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker from Absecon (N.J.) Holy Spirit, originally verbally committed to UNC in late May. He de-committed shortly after Butch Davis' dismissal.

"I think I just overacted," Mastromatteo said. "I realized the situation really wasn't that bad."

Helping Mastromatteo reevaluate the situation was a phone conversation with interim head coach Everett Withers, area recruiter Allen Mogridge, and linebackers coach Art Kaufman.

"After talking to the coaches, I realized how comfortable I was with them," Mastromatteo said. "They really helped me out a lot. They told me how much they really wanted me there and how I fit in great there."

Before hanging up the phone, Mastromatteo re-committed to UNC.

"It's a great education and I know everything will work out," Mastromatteo said. "I just love the school."

Mastromatteo says this commitment is firm and he doesn't plan on visiting any other schools.

"Everything is done," Mastromatteo said.

Mastromatteo, who first visited UNC in mid-May, will attempt to return to UNC during the season for a football game. If not, his next visit to Chapel Hill will be his official visit, which will take place in either December or January.
