"Roy Williams was great," said Body of Christ coach Darryl Harris, who accompanied Hicks on the visit. "I was inspired by the things he had to say. He was real, it was awesome.
"We sat in the office. He talked to us about 25 or 30 minutes about life. He asked Isaiah some questions about the summer and school work. Then he just went right into it. He said 'I'm asking all this because I want to offer you a scholarship. You are a highest priority right now for us.'
Hicks has made it clear that UNC is his clear frontrunner and he's coveted a scholarship offer from the Tar Heels. He's gone so far in previous interviews as saying he'd commit if offered. The North Carolina staff watched him throughout July, and Roy Williams was courtside for Hicks's near triple double in the Super Showcase 16U title game.
"Isaiah smiled," Harris said of Hicks's reaction to the offer. "He's not going to talk a whole lot, but if he's smiling ear to ear he's excited."
"He's going to give it a little time, but obviously that is his leader and where he wants to go," Harris said.
Hicks, who is ranked the No. 13 prospect in the Class of 2013 by Scout.com, also is receiving strong interest from North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Miami, Louisville, Kentucky, Florida, Memphis and Missouri. He now appears to be on the verge of his college decision.
"I think he's going to make a decision soon," Harris said.
Added Hicks in a text message to Inside Carolina: "I might (commit) tomorrow or the day after."
