Schools Calling On Marshall

Keith Marshall is the top running back in the country and he had to feel like that on Thursday, as coaches were burning up his phone line.

"Notre Dame was the first school to call me and they called around 6:45 a.m.," Marshall said of Thursday's telephone marathon. "Florida called around 7:20, then North Carolina called at 1:00, Georgia called while I was on the line with UNC, and then Miami and Michigan called later.

"I talked to every school except for Miami. The only call I was able to answer was North Carolina, but I called all the other schools back as soon as I could. It was a crazy day."

However, this wasn't as crazy as last year for Marshall. He was wide open then and had over 40 schools targeting him. Now, he has his list narrowed down, so it is not as hectic.

"It was definitely different last year," he said. "The schools know who I am focused on now, so not all of them are calling me. I still got a good number of calls, but not as many as I was getting last year before I cut my list down."

His list could be cut down again from the current group of about 10 in the near future as he finalizes his official visits.

"I know I am visiting Georgia, Notre Dame, and Florida officially. I have those already set up. I am still thinking about Alabama, Florida State, Southern Cal, and Virginia Tech for the others. I do not think I will be visiting North Carolina officially because it is so close, but we will see."

He has made a number of trips to UNC before and he will be in Chapel Hill again this weekend for the Tar Heels' season opener against James Madison.

Marshall's timeline has him planning to give one coach an early Christmas present.

"I do not think I will wait and commit at the Under Armour All-America game," he said. "I have to let the school know by mid-December, so I can get enrolled there. Probably early in December. I will take my visits during the season and then be ready."
