"He is definitely our ‘go-to' receiver, and in reality, we probably didn't go to him enough," Gilchrist said. "He wants the ball, and his knowledge of the game just makes him that much better.
Strong has already effectively qualified academically at the Division I level, he carries a 3.5 G.P.A. and he scored 1,000 on his first attempt at taking the SAT.
"He's also an unselfish player," Gilchrist said. He could easily catch eight or nine ball per game, but with the type of offense that we run, he doesn't pout if we go two or three straight series running the ball or throwing to somebody else."
Strong will clearly have to overcome his 5-foot-10, 165-pound size, at least in the eyes of recruiters, in order to improve his value. There are no offers yet, but Gilchrist said he is positive that will change over the coming months and following a succession of camp visits.
Currently, Strong lists his favorites in order as NC State, UNC, Wake Forest and Virginia.
"If I really like the school, I would commit early," Strong said. "Most likely, though, I'll probably wait and see all of my options."
