McCalister is going to take official visits to all five of his finalists. The 6-foot-5, 203-pound defensive end/outside linebacker has scheduled just one official visit – Florida the weekend of Nov. 26 when the Gators host in-state rival Florida State.
"All my official visits are definitely going to be during the season," McCalister said. "I want to see the game atmosphere."
After the conclusion of his official visit schedule, McCalister will look to make his collegiate decision.
"I'd say it's going to come down to the coaching staffs – that's likely going to make my decision," McCalister said.
McCalister has taken unofficial trips to all of his finalists, except Notre Dame. He made a summer visit to Florida and visited Georgia Tech, UNC, and NC State twice.
Most recently, McCalister attended UNC's opener against James Madison.
"That was great – that was real fun," McCalister said. "I've never seen Coach Mo' [Allen Mogridge] that fired up – that was pretty fun to watch. Watching Coach Withers coach in his first game was pretty cool."
A few weeks later, McCalister watched UNC play live again – this time in Atlanta against fellow finalist Georgia Tech.
"It was a great opportunity to see two of my schools go head-to-head," McCalister said. "Recruiting wise, it was fun on both parts. It was strange seeing the UNC coaches on the other sideline."
McCalister spoke to Withers following the game.
"I talked to him briefly," McCalister said. "We were just talking recruiting. He said, ‘We need you down here, being a Carolina kid.'"
Although he plans to continue to attend games unofficially while he works out his official visit schedule, McCalister said he is unsure of any upcoming destinations.
