NJ Lineman Visits UNC

North Carolina coaches have certainly noticed Plainfield (N.J.) offensive guard Steve Council, who took an unofficial visit to UNC last Monday.

Council, who has since then made the Tar Heels his top choice, said he is looking forward to attending summer camp in Chapel Hill on June 11. Recently at the Nike Camp at Penn State, Council placed among the top 15 offensive linemen.

"The staff was very impressed with this young man and showed some interest in him," Cardinals assistant coach Frank Colabella said. "He met with Coach [Gary] Tranquill, Coach [Jeff] Conners and someone from the recruiting department."

As a junior, Council was credited with 42 pancake blocks, while giving up just one sack.

Back on March 26, Council told The Insiders network that Rutgers was his firm No. 1, while not even considering UNC among about a dozen schools that included Michigan State, Colorado, N.C. State, Syracuse, Virginia and Maryland.

Council has family in North Carolina, including a brother who just graduated from UNC.
