Peach Jam: Torin Francis
NORTH AUGUSTA, Ga. --
The decision is just four weeks away.
Torin Francis has a lengthy list of schools right now and he chuckles at suggestions that there is a leader, but in just four weeks he expects to have selected a college.
Francis will be touring six southern schools from August 9-15, including a visit to Chapel Hill, where he made only a brief stop-in last fall.
"In one week, I'm going to visit all of them," he said, "so when I get back, I'll be able to make my decision."
For the next three weeks, however, Francis will be on the AAU circuit, swatting shots, controlling the boards and continuing to improve his offensive game.
"When I first started playing, I didn't want to be one dimensional," Francis said. "I don't want to just block shots and get rebounds."
His face-up jumpshot from the top of the key, and a short turnaround jumper that he better utilized two weeks ago at the NBA Camp, are his best offensive options at this point, but his quick moves in the paint are starting to make him more dangerous – as he showed on one occasion by beating a defender baseline and throwing down a one-handed reverse dunk on Friday night.
Francis finished the evening game with 18 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks and three steals.
"I just want to establish myself as one of the best players in the country, so I knew I needed to get more aggressive," he said, in reference to shedding the "soft" label. "I think that came along as I got older and stronger."
So for now, his focus will be on the court and not on college, but a decision is only four weeks away.
