ABCD: Steve Novak
"I've got my list narrowed down to four schools," Steve Novak said on Sunday afternoon, "and UNC is one of them."
In other words, his trip to Chapel Hill last week went quite well.
"It was a good visit," he said. "I got to meet the coaches and see the campus. I worked out at the Dean Dome and met the freshmen. I really enjoyed it."
Novak, a Wisconsin native, is also considering Florida, Illinois and Marquette.
"I've visited Florida twice," he said. "I was down there last week, it's a beautiful campus. I like all the coaches, Coach Donovan is great, and I think they're going to have one of the best teams in the country the next couple of years."
On Illinois: "It's only about four hours from home (but location won't really have anything to do with my final decision). They're also going to be a really great time - they're a lot like Florida."
On Marquette: "Coach Crean is great. They're building and have a lot of potential - I think it'd be fun to be at a program like that."
Wisconsin, once a hometown favorite, is now on the outside looking in. "I told the staff that I'd visit after the camp, but at this point, they're not one of the four, he said."
Novak said that the four aformentioned schools are "pretty much even" with regards to one another.
He doesn't plan on making any more visits and said he hopes to making a decision in the next month. So, what will dictate his decision?
"I guess I'm just going to stay in touch with everybody and see what happens," he said.
At 6-9, 205 pounds, Novak isn't a post player now, nor will he be one at the next level.
"People see [my height] and they think I'm a big man, but I can play more of a 2/3 spot -- more of a shooter than an inside player," he said. "I plan to start college as a three and end up more of a 2/3."
