Melvin Scott: Senior Season Coverage

3/2 Update: Scott's senior season came to end Wednesday night. Southern fell to Lake Clifton in overtime, 82-79, in the Class 4A North Region semifinals. Scott, who scored 23 points, missed a game-tying three-point attempt as time expired.

2/22 Update: Southern fell in the city title game to Dunbar, 79-73. Scott had 30 points, including seven threes.

2/12 Update: Scott scored 17 points as Southern routed Forest Park 75-25 on Friday night.

2/7 Update: Southern is 15-4 after wins over Poly (75-43) and Patterson (71-27). Scott posted 11 and 25 points, respectively.

1/31 Update: Scott's 25 points were not enough to avoid an upset at the hands of Lake Clifton. Scott hit a clutch three with two seconds left to send the game to OT, but the Bulldogs (13-4) lost in the extra period, 63-61.

1/27 Update: Southern overcame a tough shooting night from Scott to defeat Paul VI, 58-50. Scott had 13 points (4-13 FG, 1-6 3pt), seven rebounds and four assists. Clint Jackson, of, writes from DC - "Scott suffered through a relatively bad shooting night, but had a couple of nice moves and one incident where he broke down a defender pretty badly. He put some nasty isolation moves on Dennis Bowden, the point guard for Paul VI."

1/21 Update: The Bulldogs improved their record to 11-3 with a 65-49 win over third-ranked Aberdeen. Scott scored 13 points. "We understood that if we didn't the share the ball, we'd have to share the loss," Scott told the Baltimore Sun postgame.

Scott led Southern with 18 points, beating Ballou 86-70 on Friday night.

1/17 Update: Southern lost to Dunbar HS last night, 80-73. Scott was held scoreless in the first half (0-6 FG) and finished with 13 points. His struggles can be attributed to the absence of starting point guard Keyon Johnson, who has been suspended from the Bulldogs indefinitely. Southern is now 9-3.

1/6 Update: Scott scored 25 points and dished out 10 assists, as the Southern Bulldogs beat Douglass 96-80. Southern (8-2) is now ranked No. 14 in the USA Today national poll.

1/1 Update: Southern played three games at the Slam Dunk to the Beach tourney in Lewes, Delaware. In their first game, they lost to eventual tournament champion Willowridge (TX), 74-64. Scott, who struggled from the perimeter throughout the tournament, had 14 points (4-17 FG, 2-10 3pt) and three assists. Southern won its second game, 55-49 over St. Jude (AL), with Scott posting 13 points (5-12 FG, 1-6 3pt) and four assists. In their final game, Southern lost a 52-51 nailbiter to Rice (NY), as Scott contributed 15 points (5-17 FG, 2-8 3pt). Scott's tournament averages: 14.0 points (41% FG, 21% 3pt) and 2.3 assists.

12/22 Update: Scott posted 27 points, four assists and four steals as Southern moved to 6-0 with a 71-59 win over Carver. Southern won its fifth game of the season on Dec. 19, routing Northern 82-52.

12/10 Update: Southern starts the season 2-0 with wins over Randallstown (59-47) and Spingarn (67-58). Scott scored 13 and 25 points, respectively.
