Maryland gets basketball commitment

Maryland has received a commitment from Nik Caner-Medley, a 6-6 forward from Deering (ME) High.

Maryland beat out Missouri, Virginia, Connecticut and Kansas.

"Everything about Maryland just felt right," he told MaineToday. "It has everything I want, and I feel very comfortable there."

Caner-Medley is not listed in Prep Stars' Pre-Summer Top 100, but he's had an impressive summer thus far and is expected to move up in the rankings.

Prep Stars' Rob Harrington on Caner-Medley at ABCD last week: "The left-hander has a very broad frame and hauls with great speed up and down the court. And some of his dunks were among the most exciting of the camp. His favorite move is the baseline drive with reverse finish on the other side of the rim. The big question with Nik is his shooting range; if he can hit a decent percentage from outside, he could be a very effective scorer at the high-major level."

The Terps also have a commitment from shooting guard Chris McCray, of Capitol Heights (MD) Fairmont, ranked No. 66 by Prep Stars. Top 75 wing forward Cortez Davis recently decommitted from Maryland, but Terp sources at the Peach Jam said he is still Maryland-bound.
