CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Every year at the Tournament of Champions a player stands out who was heretofore unknown -- well, at least to me. This year, the kid who caught my eye on the second day of pool play was Rashad Chase.
The 6-6 Georgia star is only 16 years old, but he has a chiseled physique of a more mature player, resembling Shane Battier from a distance. And he can do it all: score, defend, and rebound. He's got the total game on offense -- he can post up, drive, and face up.
He has time to work on his weaknesses before he'll ever arrive on a college campus, but all he currently lacks is polish. His list of schools includes Georgetown, Kentucky, and Maryland as the early leaders, with Georgia Tech under consideration, as well. If he continues to progress, additional schools may be vying for his services when word gets out.
Is currently getting the most interest from Georgetown and Kentucky. He has yet to visit but is interested in doing so.
Has unofficially visited Georgia Tech and Furman.
