TOC: Kevin Swinton Spotlight

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Buzz continues to swirl about the eventual destination of North Carolina native and AAU 16-U Greensboro Gater Kevin Swinton. Prevailing thought indicates that the 6-7 post player will end up at Wake Forest, but it's currently not a forgone conclussion.

"I never said that," Swinton said. "...but they are a good school. The basketball program is going to be strong with Chris Paul and those guys coming in."

The Demon Deacons and the Tar Heels exist as the only two schools under consideration at this time with the quality of education and good basketball fit as the top two priorities. However, Swinton acknowledges that there is a possibility that others could be added to the list, even though that is not the plan.

UNC head coach Roy Williams has been in contact with Swinton's head coach, demonstrating an interest from the Tar Heels, and Swinton says the Tar Heels definitely have a shot.

And, while he definitely wants to improve his face-up game away from the basket, he sees himself as a power forward in college.

"I'm an old-fashioned player," Swinton explained. I play with my back to the basket usually. That's my strongest point, but I'm trying to get better at turning and facing, inside-out."

With true post players being such a rare commodity these days, a player like Swinton has a special appeal to college coaches, and on Saturday he stayed in the paint and was a dominant force.
