"But he's not committed to Purdue. He is committed to North Carolina."
Last week, Ben Metheny, the head football coach at Cape Coral (Fla.), told a Lafayette, Ind. newspaper that Jiles had verbally committed to Purdue and had never verbally committed to UNC.
"I didn't even know until this morning – my brother was telling me about it – that [Metheny] said [Jiles committed to Purdue]," Church said. "But the coach was mistaken."
Church said that she personally last spoke to the UNC coaching staff late last week.
Shortly before committing to UNC in early October, Jiles officially visited Purdue. A few weeks before the Purdue visit, the 6-foot, 175-pound cornerback made an official trip to UNC.
Church says that her son will continue taking official visits as a backup plan. Central Florida and Wake Forest are likely destinations, but neither trip has been scheduled.
"We're still trying to schedule the visit with Wake Forest," Church said. "UCF, they said we could go up there any time, because it's right here in Florida and a couple hours away."
