"I'd just like to say 'Congratulations on your offer from UNC,'" the Hampton (Va.) Phoebus standout said the Tar Heel head coach told him.
Roy Williams visited Phoebus on Monday to watch Troy Williams practice. The offer came two days later.
"I was overwhelmed," Troy Williams said of his reaction to the phone call. "I screamed inside."
"He said that he's not the type to offer early," the athletic 6-6 wingman continued. "(He said) 'I like to know the player off the court first and you're a nice, humble young man.'"
Williams is also receiving strong interest from Villanova, Georgetown, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Florida, Texas, DePaul, Virginia Tech and Alabama.
He is averaging just over 21 points a gamer during his junior season and is ranked as the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2013 class.
"They'll be in my top five in the future," Williams said of the impact the offer will have on his recruitment. "I'm still not leaning in any direction yet."
Having visited UNC back in September, Williams said he is eying a return trip to Chapel Hill for a game this season, but a date has not yet been scheduled.
