UNC Offers Duncan

A long-awaited scholarship offer for Jela Duncan arrived Friday when North Carolina offered the 5-foot-10, 199-pound running back from Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek.

"It puts things in perspective," Duncan said. "My boy Marquise Williams plays up there and I would like to play with him again. With them playing in a spread offense makes it sweeter, because we play a spread offense at Mallard Creek."

Roughly a dozen schools have offered Duncan, including Duke, East Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Purdue.

The UNC offer was extended to Duncan during Gunter Brewer's visit to Mallard Creek on Friday.

"It happened [Friday] during my third block," Duncan said. "The receivers coach came by my school and said they looked at my film and they really liked it and offered me."

Brewer also discussed having Duncan officially visit UNC.

"It will probably be the last weekend of the month," Duncan said.

The only school Duncan has officially visited is Purdue back in September. He is scheduled to officially visit East Carolina the weekend of Jan. 14 and Duke the weekend of Jan. 21.

With several crucial official visits upcoming, Duncan doesn't claim a favorite school.

"I don't have a leader right now," Duncan said.

This weekend, Duncan is strongly considering unofficially visiting UNC for the basketball game against Boston College.

As a senior, Duncan rushed for 2,200 yards and 30 touchdowns on 208 carries (10.6-yard average) and was named the I-Meck Conference Offensive Player-of-the-Year. He followed that up by rushing for 112 yards and a touchdown on seven carries in the Shrine Bowl.
