Barth Granted Fifth Year

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- The Atlantic Coast Conference has granted North Carolina place-kicker Casey Barth a medical hardship waiver for the 2011 season, allowing the Wilmington, N.C., native a fifth-year of eligibility in 2012.

Barth was limited to three games in 2011 due to an injured groin. He strained his groin in the first half vs. Virginia on Sept. 17 and did not kick the rest of the year.

Barth made all 11 extra points and one field goal - a 46-yarder vs. Rutgers - in the first two and a half games before the injury. He has made 51 of 63 career field goal attempts and a school-record 82 consecutive extra points. He needs just four field goals to surpass his brother Connor's school-record total of 54.

In 2010, Barth earned honorable mention All-ACC honors after converting 19 of 22 field goal attempts, including a long of 49. He made all 38 extra point attempts.
