Jiles, a 6-foot, 175-pound cornerback from Cape Coral (Fla.), verbally committed to UNC in October. On the heels of a coaching change, he took an official visit to Central Florida and fielded interest from several other schools.
"I took my visit to UCF and that made me think," Jiles said. "But then I realized where I wanted to go from the beginning. So I stuck with that."
Jiles admits that he made a final decision to stick with UNC this past week.
"I liked everything [about UNC]," Jiles said. "I've liked it since I took my visit last year."
When he originally made his verbal commitment, Jiles had developed a strong relationship with Everett Withers and his staff. Thus, when Larry Fedora was hired and didn't retain any coach from the previous staff, Jiles was concerned. However, Fedora and company made the transition a smooth one.
"It came easy, because the coaches answered all my questions and made it to where it wasn't shaky," Jiles said. "[The transition] wasn't really difficult, because they made me feel comfortable."
Specifically, Dan Disch, who became his primary recruiter, was responsible for Jiles' comfort level.
"Coach Disch and Coach Fedora kept up with me all the time – they actually came and saw me this week," Jiles said. "I quickly got comfortable with them. We talk every day now."
