"Due to the injury, I was unable to reach the level that I wanted," Williams said. "My health was more important than endangering it on the football field. I love the game, but it came down to that."
Williams plans to remain close to the program, working as a volunteer assistant coach when the season begins. For now, however, he wants to avoid being around his teammates working out. "It's just kind of hard watching right now," he said.
