Strength and Conditioning, Part IV

Vertical jump and other items of interest. Testing is about to wind up at UNC for the summer program. All that is left is timing the forty yard dash.

Testing was completed today on the vertical jump for UNC football players attending voluntary summer workouts.

1.     Billy Dee Greenwood - Sr. - 40.5

1T.   Chesley Borders - Jr. - 40.5

3.     James Faison - So. - 37.5

3T.   Julius Peppers - Jr. - 37.5

5.     Willie Parker - So. - 37

5T.    Kevin Knight - Jr. - 37

5T.    Defonte' Coleman - Jr. - 37

5T.   Sam Aiken - Jr. - 37

Other notes:

Clarence Gaddy, who normally does well in the vertical jump, did not participate because of a minor knee problem.  The problem is not serious, but he was not tested as a precaution.

True freshmen continue to impress.  Jason Brown set the all-time record for an offensive lineman, regardless of class, in the squat this morning by squatting 655 pounds.

Tommy Davis and Jocques Dumas have made an impression by both power cleaning 300 pounds.  Dumas, whose reported weight out of high school was 225 pounds has already bulked up to 245 pounds.  Drew Hunter, whose weight out of high school was 265 spread out over a 6-8 frame, has added 20 pounds as well.

Freshmen are available for summer workouts on a limited basis.  Some are participating in the "Bridge" program, which helps prepare high schoolers for college and are not available to the strength and conditioning program.  Others have not reported.  On July 30th, all freshmen report and will be put through a variety of strength and conditioning tests.
