Mitch, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback Raleigh (N.C.) Wakefield, actually has two schools at the top.
"I'd say my top two right now are LSU and South Carolina," Mitch said. "I've built a really good relationship with both quarterback coaches. Coach [G.A.] Mangus and Coach [Steve] Kragthorpe are both really good guys to get along with and I could see myself playing for them for the next four or five years."
In addition to the aforementioned schools, Mitch lists Alabama and Auburn as schools he is strongly considering. He said he recently had an impactful conversation with Alabama head coach, Nick Saban, last week.
Mitch had planned on making a verbal commitment sometime in May. Those plans have since been postponed, but his goal remains to have a decision made before his senior season.
"There's been a couple late offers come in and I don't want to rule those schools out," Mitch said. "So I feel like I need to make a couple visits to those schools that have offered me late."
Since last fall, Mitch has made plethora of visits to schools, including trips to Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Maryland, UNC, NC State, and South Carolina. Currently, though, he's taking a break. He'll return to the road next month for LSU's Bayou Bash, as well as a trip to Auburn.
Mitch's teammate, Jordan Fieulleteau, verbally committed to UNC in mid-February.
"He's definitely trying to get me to go there," Mitch said. "But he also knows at the same time I have to do what is best for me."
