Roy Williams Offers Meeks

Roy Williams called Kennedy Meeks this week with news the West Charlotte (N.C.) junior center had been waiting for, according to his coach.

"We called the coaching staff a couple nights ago," said West Charlotte head coach Baronton Terry. "Coach Roy said ‘Hey, you have a scholarship offer to North Carolina if you want it.'"

Williams watched Meeks last Saturday evening in Hampton, Va. at the EYBL event, while UNC assistant coaches watched his other four games on the weekend.

"He played really well in Hampton this past weekend with Team United," Terry said. "They went 5-0 and I guess Roy liked what he saw.

"He's got some great offers, but this was kind of confirmation of how good he is."

The 6-9, 270-pound junior is ranked the No. 2 center and No. 28 prospect overall in the 2013 class.

"I don't think he's going to make a decision until after the AAU season," Terry said. "He's got some great schools after him."

Meeks also has offers from Georgetown, Louisville, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Stanford, UCLA, and Virginia Tech.

"Wherever he goes, he's going to do great. He's very, very skilled for a big man and isn't scared to work," Terry said. "He'll get on a conditioning program and be a valuable player for whatever school he chooses."

Meeks led West Charlotte to a state championship in 2011, and lost in the state title game in 2012. He was an AP All-State selection both seasons.
