Two Leaders for Knott

Despite the addition of several scholarship offers the past couple of months, Alan Knott's recruitment remains a two-horse race.

"Things are still pretty much the same," Knott said. "South Carolina and North Carolina are sticking out to me.

"Coach Kap' [Chris Kapilovic] and Coach [Larry] Fedora were at Southern Miss when [Southern Miss] offered me. That was my tenth grade year, so we've been talking since then. So it's a good relationship there.

"South Carolina, it's my first and only SEC offer right now. And I like Coach [Steve] Spurrier and Coach [Shawn] Elliot. And Coach Grady Brown, he was at Southern Miss, also, whenever [Southern Miss] offered me. So there's another good relationship there at South Carolina."

Specifically, Knott, a 6-foot-4, 270-pound offensive guard from Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek, has developed a strong bond with Kapilovic, UNC's offensive line coach.

"We talk on the phone just about every week," Knott said. "He's a real good coach from what I've seen."

Knott says he is not leaning towards either of the Carolina schools.

"Right now, I'm just feeling the love from both of them," Knott said.

To break the tie, Knott plans to camp at both schools this summer. Shortly thereafter, Knott, who is looking to make a verbal commitment before the end of the summer, should be ready to make a verbal commitment.

"Mainly, at those camps, I just want to see how they coach," Knott said. "That and also I want to go more in-depth with the academics. I want to learn more about what I want to study."

While he does have a few ideas in mind, Knott is undecided on a college major.

Knott has made unofficial visits to both UNC and South Carolina.

After attending UNC's Junior Day in mid-February, Knott and his parents returned to Chapel Hill in early April on their way to Virginia Tech.

"I was there for about an hour or two hours," Knott said. "I wanted to come back because Coach Kap' told me I could get a more in-depth tour of the campus. He took us around the golf cart and rode us around the campus."

In addition to his co-leaders and Virginia Tech, Knott has visited Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, and Southern Miss.

The Evaluation Period has helped Knott's scholarship count enter into double digits. Central Florida, Miami, and South Florida are among the schools that have offered during the past month.
