Commitment Q&A: T.J. Logan

T.J. Logan became the latest in-state recruit to verbally commit to North Carolina on Tuesday. The Greensboro (N.C.) Northern Guilford athlete discussed his decision in-depth with ...

North Carolina and South Carolina have been your co-leaders for quite some time. What broke the tie?

"I just felt like North Carolina was the best fit for me offensive-wise and it's close to home… I just felt like it was the best time to jump on it, because it's a great fit for me."

When did you actually make the decision?

"We had a seven-on-seven today and I talked to Coach Kap' [Chris Kapilovic]. We were just talking and I just felt like I wanted to commit. So I told him that I wanted to verbally commit. So he put me on the phone with Coach [Larry] Fedora."

What was Fedora's reaction?

"He's a very excited guy, so he was screaming. He made me say I'm ready to be a Tar Heel. So that was cool."

What was it like saying ‘I'm T.J. Logan and I'm a Tar Heel'?

"It felt good, because it's where I'm comfortable at. Coming down to my two [finalists], I kind of knew where I wanted to be, but I didn't really know until I started narrowing it down."

How does it feel to get the recruiting process out of the way and put it behind you?

"It feels good, because I won't have as many people trying to come at me."

What role did Kapilovic, your primary recruiter, have in your decision?

"I talked to Coach Kap' a lot. He told me some things that I liked about the school. He said I would be able to help them on offense and I'll probably be able to play as a freshman – I really liked that. He let me know what they want me as – a running back/athlete. He said I could catch a couple passes and run the ball – I really like that. Right now, he said just offense and kick return and punt return, maybe. But I can play defense."

How firm is this decision?

"I'm done for right now. The only school I want to visit is North Carolina."

When's the next time you expect to visit UNC?

"I need to sit down with my mom and decide on a day we can visit and see the campus. The couple times I went up there, I went up there for basketball games and I didn't really see the whole area. I want to come to a couple [football] games, because I've only been to basketball games because North Carolina came on me kind of late."
