Thorpe Sidelined

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- North Carolina sophomore T.J. Thorpe suffered a serious foot injury in practice that will sideline him for an extended period of time, according to sources close to the situation.

A UNC official said on Monday morning that the program's policy is not to comment on injuries, so there is no official word on Thorpe from UNC.

Thorpe set a school record as a freshman with 960 kickoff return yards in 2011, and led the ACC with a 26.7 kickoff return average. He was named a finalist for the Johnny Rodgers Award, given to the nation's top returner, and earned honorable mention All-ACC honors.

The Durham, N.C. native had two receptions last season at wide receiver, but figured to have a larger role at wideout in 2012 and was listed on the depth chart's second team at the start of training camp.
