Brooker enters the coaching ranks

Michael Brooker, who graduated from Carolina this spring, has been hired as the varsity boys basketball coach at St. Timothy's-Hale in Raleigh.

Brooker scored 21 points in 17 appearances last season.

A native of Sandersville, Ga., he was a prolific high school shooter at Brentwood Academy, but his career at UNC was hindered by injuries. Brooker was redshirted in 1996-97 after an ACL injury and was sidelined for much of his sophomore season after re-injuring the knee. His career high was 10 points in the 1998-99 season opener against Appalachian State.

Thanks, and congratulations, to Luanne Brooker for passing along the news.
