Roy Williams Affirms Okafor Offer

A recent phone call by Roy Williams provided confirmation of what had already become clear during the summer evaluation period -- North Carolina is making Jahlil Okafor a priority.

After the Tar Heels recorded double-digit appearances at the 6-foot-10, 270-pound prospect's games in July – including at least five by UNC head coach Roy Williams – the Tar Heels began increasing communication with Okafor in August.

That culminated in a call about two weeks ago where Williams affirmed that the top center in the 2014 does indeed have a UNC scholarship offer.

"There was a communication issue earlier," Chukwudi Okafor, Jahlil's father, said. "They've offered him a full scholarship and they are very high on him.

"It's a privilege for him to have an offer – it's the University of North Carolina. It's an honor – a humbling honor."

The elder Okafor said the UNC staff expects to visit Chicago during open gyms sometime this month. However, the city's teachers strike has the specifics up in the air.

The Chicago (Ill.) Whitney Young standout now lists offers from Arizona, Arkansas, DePaul, Duke, Georgetown, Louisville, Illinois, Kansas State, North Carolina, Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin among others.

Okafor becomes the fourth top 10 prospect in the class of 2014 to hold a UNC offer and the seventh 2014 prospect overall (all seven are ranked in the Top 20).
