Meeks On Late Night: 'I Loved It'

Kennedy Meeks made the drive from Charlotte to watch UNC's season-opening "Late Night with Roy" event on Friday.

"I loved it," said Meeks, a 6-9 senior center at Charlotte (N.C.) West. "Coach Williams was cool – he gave me the opportunity to see everything and come to Late Night with Roy. I was excited to see the other recruits and hang out with them and the coaches. It was really cool."

Meeks planned to visit UNC in August following the conclusion of his AAU season, but was unable to coordinate his schedule with the UNC coaches. He accepted the visit to Late Night because he "loves the atmosphere at UNC."

"It was a fun time there," said Meeks. "It was everything I expected."

Also in attendance were 2013 commitments Nate Britt and Isaiah Hicks, as well as 2013 target Troy Williams and 2014 target Justin Jackson.

"Those are my boys," said Meeks of the recruits. "We played with each other this summer and at camps and stuff. We laugh and joke around. Sometimes we just try and stay from recruiting and all that so we can have fun. But, Nate and Isaiah were definitely on me."

After the UNC scrimmage concluded the Late Night festivities, Meeks spoke with UNC head coach Roy Williams.

"I went in his office and we just talked a little bit," Meeks explained. "He was just telling how he wants me on the team and how I would fit in, stuff like that."

Williams and UNC will get another chance to meet with Meeks in two weeks, as he has scheduled an official visit to Chapel Hill for the weekend of Oct. 26. The weekend prior, Oct. 19, he plans to officially visit Georgetown.

"If I were to go to UNC, I'd fit in perfectly" Meeks said. "I was just happy I got to come tonight – it was a great experience."'s top ranked 2013 center, Meeks has offers from Georgetown, UNC, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Ohio State and N.C. State.
