Barth Out for the Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina announced on Tuesday that senior placekicker Casey Barth is out for the season after suffering an undisclosed injury in Saturday's loss to Georgia Tech. The school also confirmed season-ending injuries for 11 other Tar Heels on its ACC-mandated injury report.

UNC head coach Larry Fedora's injury policy is to only disclose season-ending injuries. In the school's weekly ACC injury reports, however, UNC has only listed players out for the next game.

On Tuesday, UNC released its injury report ahead of Thursday night's Coastal Division game at Virginia and, for the first time all season, categorized all 12 players listed under an "out for the season" heading.

Barth, a 2012 Lou Groza Award semifinalist, left the game on Saturday after appearing to injure his left leg while attempting to make a tackle on a kickoff return. He made 15-of-19 field goal attempts this season.

The Wilmington, N.C. native is UNC's all-time leader in career field goals made (66), career extra points made (160) and consecutive extra points made (126). He set a single-season school record for consecutive extra points made (44) with four PATs on Saturday. Barth also became the school's all-time leading scorer this season (358).

The fifth-year senior earned second-team All-ACC honors in 2009 and honorable mention in 2010.

Red-shirt freshman defensive back Sam Smiley, who started at the Ram position on Saturday, finished the season with 26 tackles in seven games.

The other 10 players, all of whom were on last week's injury report, are as follows: freshman wide receiver Kedrick Davis, sophomore tight end Sean Fitzpatrick, freshman fullback Connor Gonet, sophomore tackle T.J. Leifheit, junior linebacker Darius Lipford, freshman running back Travis Riley, freshman placekicker Miller Snyder, sophomore wide receiver T.J. Thorpe, senior offensive tackle Brennan Williams and freshman linebacker Phil Williamson.
