Raleigh hoopster chooses Clemson

Shawan Robinson

Two weeks ago, a web site reported that Leesville Road (NC) star point guard Shawan Robinson had committed to Clemson -- but then retracted their story the next day.

Now, however, Robinson's verbal commitment to Clemson is official, Dave Telep reported this evening (link).

Robinson is ranked No. 100 in Prep Stars' Pre-Summer Top 100. He boosted his stock with a strong showing in the Boo Williams Invitational in April and has played well since at events such as the Peach Jam last week. He plays AAU ball with the Raleigh Heat, which features Broughton High star Shavlik Randolph.

"Robinson's greatest strength is his ability to score on the move," writes Prep Stars' Rob Harrington. "He can hit while facing from mid-range or nail tough runners over the outstretched hands of big men in the post. His three-point shot is streaky (he shoots it a little off his shoulder), but we've seen him hit four and five consecutive attempts from long-range."

Shawan's father, Darryl, is the head coach at Leesville Road and played for Bobby Cremins at Appalachian State. Leesville featured Florida State-bound McDonald's All-American Anthony Richardson last season.
