Fedora Halftime Quotes

Larry Fedora joined the Tar Heel Sports Network for a halftime radio interview during Saturday's basketball game at the Dean E. Smith Center. Here's a transcript of their interview ...

Despite football season being over, you're still keeping busy aren't you?
"Yeah we're in the heat of recruiting right now so it's going really well. That's been something that's really good. We've got some guys here tonight so they're having a good time."

It seemed like your team bought into your system this year and you achieved your goal of Coastal Division champions.
"Yeah, they did. That goal was something that we set from the very beginning even though we knew we wouldn't be recognized for it, but we still achieved it and that was all that mattered. They didn't care whether we were going to be recognized by anybody other than ourselves. It didn't matter for them so I'm proud of those guys."

What are the focal points for your program moving forward?
"Well we got to get better on defense. That's the number one thing. We got to get better on defense, we got to continue to improve in our special teams in all four phases and then we got to keep improving offensively. There's going to be some holes to fill and we got to have a lot of guys that are going to step up that want to have the opportunity to be the future stars."

What is the plan for the players that have NFL decisions ahead of them?
"What we've done is started the process with them being able to send all their stuff into the [NFL college advisory] committee. They'll find out where they are projected. I've been talking with different GM's around the country to also give them as much information. I've got a packet put together for each one of them on the history of the draft and where it is and then I'm going to turn it over to them and their families and we're going to support them either way.

"One way or the other, they're going to be great ambassadors for this program and for this university and so it doesn't matter. They're great kids. They've done a great job for us. If they come back we're going to be ecstatic. If they decide to take that next step in their life we're going to be ecstatic for them also."

Hats off to you for instilling excitement into the program with class and integrity which means a lot to North Carolina supporters.
"I really appreciate that. I don't know how you guys do this. There is so much stuff this is like a circus down here and I'm trying to stay focused on what you're talking about and this is hard. My mind doesn't work like this... I'm really proud of our football team. I've got a great staff. I really do. These guys, they're not going to be outworked. They do a great job of recruiting and coaching these kids. They care about our kids and our kids figured that out. It's all about tough love for us and we get after them pretty hard, but the kids know we truly care about them."

We look forward to seeing where you take the program from here.
"Well we've established a base and we know where we got to go from there and hopefully we'll get better."
